Best Value Statutory Guidance consultation by the Department of Communities and Local Government

The DLA has submitted a response to the three-week consultation by the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) on proposed changes to their Best Value Statutory Guidance. While what is proposed is one revised and two additional paragraphs in already drastically reduced guidance concerned with local government commissioning and procurement, the DLA decided it was important to respond. Our concern is potential marginalisation of the Public Sector Equality Duty, and we have sought to illustrate the false premises on which new paragraph 4 is based, and to highlight the urgent need for effective PSED guidance so that local authorities will be able to meet their Equality Act obligations and secure services appropriate to the needs of their communities.
