PGM: "State Islamophobia and the Prevent Duty" - Lena Mohamed of the Islamic Human Rights Commission - today 07/09/2016

Date and time:
7 September 2016 6:00pm

Just a reminder of our next Practitioners Group Meeting which will take place tomorrow as follows:

topic: State Islamophobia and the Prevent Duty'

While Prevent has been prominent in the media since it passed into law in 2015, as a policy it has been around since 2007 and has wreaked havoc on Muslim communities around the country ever since.  While the duty claims to target those who are at risk of extremism, policy rhetoric as well as empirical and anecdotal evidence show otherwise.  This seminar will use case studies to discuss how Prevent has been implemented in schools and how it has led to state-sanctioned discrimination of Muslim students.

speaker: Lena Mohamed (profile) of Islamic Human Rights Commission
a grassroots organisation that has campaigned extensively against Prevent and is calling for a boycott in lieu of a repeal of the legislation.
