AGM & Annual Social Event - guest speaker: Frances O'Grady TUC + stand for Executive Committee - Wednesday 3rd February 2016 6pm

The DLA AGM and annual social event will take place on
Wednesday, 3rd February 2016 beginning at 6:00pm - venue details:

7br chambers

address: 7 Bedford Row, London WC1R 4BS (map)

Our guest speaker will be Frances O’Grady, General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress.  You can read her full biography here

It will help us very much in planning numbers of ballot papers and glasses of wine if you will let us know (RSVP) if you are able (or unable) to attend. Non-members are welcome to attend this event (but only DLA members can vote).  Please forward this email to interested colleagues and friends.

Nominations to the Executive Committee:

The DLA encourages all members to consider standing for a position on their Executive Committee (EC),

It is vital that the full spectrum of DLA members is represented - lay advisers, policy workers, union reps, lawyers, and anyone who shares our aims and ideals.

Responsibilities and opportunities of EC members include:

·        attending monthly meetings and contributing to the running of the organisation (help with fares is available for EC members who live out of London)

·        working on a programme of speakers for PGMs, our annual conferences, and debates

·        contributing to Briefings, our quarterly publication

·        drafting consultation responses (or suggesting other suitable candidates!)

·        co-ordinating briefings for MPs and members of the House of Lords

·        helping with our website and social media

·        formulating DLA policy, including taking views from the membership

A regular commitment of time is required, but the EC understands that this may have to be flexible depending on work and other commitments, and different EC members take on a variety of different tasks.

Nominate yourself

Remember, although you can ask another member to nominate you, by far the most common procedure is for people to nominate themselves - don’t be shy!

The deadline for EC nominations is Monday 25th January 2016.  This deadline cannot be extended as a reasonable amount of time is required for administrative arrangements before the AGM.

Nominations by email to [email protected] will be accepted provided a signed hardcopy is subsequently received by post by Friday, 29th January 2016 at the DLA office (please note address: PO Box 63576, London N6 9BB). The nomination form can be found attached to this email.

The nomination form is in MS Word format - entries can be typed into the form fields by computer or written longhand on a printout of the form - please contact the DLA office if you are unable to open this file.

Motions to be considered at the AGM

Members can also propose motions at the AGM provided they serve adequate notice on the secretary, and at all events not later than 5:30pm on Monday, 25th January 2016.  Please send any motions to the DLA Administrator - [email protected]

Wine, soft drinks and nibbles will be provided at the event.

The conference room at 7br has wheelchair access, cloakroom facilities and an induction loop for those with disabilities.  If you require any reasonable adjustments to be made for this meeting, for example information in large print or electronic copies, please contact Chris Atkinson at the DLA office.
