If you are interested in equality law and practice and concerned about how the gains of the past can be protected and used to fight the challenges of tomorrow, then this is the conference to attend.
The conference was held on Friday 3rd November 2023 at the London offices of Allen & Overy (Bishops Square, London E1 6AD). This was a HYBRID conference - in-person as well as online. Delegates were very much encouraged to come in person to the conference but those living/working beyond the M25 were welcome to join online.
DLA’s 2023 conference examined how to use discrimination law to address the growing lack of access to justice in the UK. We considered:
- access to justice for persons with disabilities (both in court procedures and also in access to HMCTS courts and tribunals);
- international law on access to justice;
- how to combat the effect of sex and race discrimination in police forces on access to justice for victims of crime.
- how to use the public sector equality duty to combat advice deserts.
Sessions also updated practitioners on developments in equality law, and our final plenary session considered the future of discrimination law, including discrimination and AI.
A drinks reception at the end of the afternoon was a great chance for participants and speakers to network.
The DLA is grateful to Allen and Overy for providing catering for this year’s conference as well as donating the use of their venue.
