The DLA’s 2022 conference explored the role of equality law in addressing social & economic disadvantage and inequalities. The previous decade of austerity had a dis-proportionate effect on the working class and minorities, only exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. How did these inequalities arise and what can we, as activists and lawyers, do about it? Our speakers looked at the current laws available here and in the US to address social and economic disadvantage and seek social justice. There was also discussion around the intersectional issues that arise when considering socioeconomic discrimination. This was complemented by case law updates and practical sessions on utilising current laws to bring claims under the Equality and Human Rights Act.
